UK SPF Invitation to Tender: Requirements for sharing Defence spectrum

The Forum's open calls for commissioned research are a fantastic opportunity to work with us and explore potential frameworks that advance spectrum policy debates. The UK SPF focused this year's commissioning call on building on the knowledge for a licensing framework for public sector spectrum access and improving spectrum sharing in the UK. 

Requirements for sharing Defence spectrum

This research study would examine how potential frameworks for spectrum sharing could operate within specific conditions set by the MoD, and how civil users can utilize the shared spectrum within these parameters.

Additional information 

The focus of our discussion is on spectrum utilized by the Defense sector. The reference to "frequency bands already subject to formalized sharing arrangements" mean the existing frequency sharing agreements between civil and military services, as outlined by Ofcom. These arrangements are in place to facilitate sharing among various civil uses such as Fixed Links, Mobile, BR, Amateur, Emergency Services, while also ensuring protection for Defense operations and installations.

It's important to highlight that the study should not aim to replace existing MoD sharing arrangements, as stated in paragraph two of the background section.

Sophie was promoted to Head having been Programme Manager for Communications Infrastructure and Services, leading techUK's telecoms activities, engagement and policy development. Previously, Sophie was Programme Assistant across a variety of areas including the Broadband Stakeholder Group, Central Government, Financial Services and Communications Infrastructure programmes.

Prior to joining techUK, Sophie completed a masters in Film Studies at University College London; her dissertation examined US telecoms policy relating to net neutrality and content distribution.
